Not absolutely everything in your act needs to be true, it just has to feel true. Sometimes embellishing and exaggerating the truth is just good writing. When it comes down to it, your goal is to entertain your audience, not win an award for integrity. You might think this is incongruent with me banging on about authenticity all the bloody time, but authenticity means the spark and emotions are real, creativity is when you build a world around that.
The point of this exercise is not to create an actual sitcom (but who knows??) but just to get the gears grinding in your head in a new way. Perhaps you’ll get a few solid joke ideas from it.
