I originally learnt this exercise in the Logan Murray comedy class I took in 2006, and it stuck in my mind all these years later. What’s brilliant about it is it’s useful in everything you write at al times - it’s the essence of authentic comedy writing.
The original version is printed in Logan’s excellent book Get Started In Stand-Up Comedy, which is definitely one of the better comedy books out there. I have put it in my own words because I don’t know the legality of printing exercises online. If you’re reading this Logan, haii! Aren’t you proud of me? I quit stand-up and now I’m plagiarising you online!
