Monologuing as a writing tool

A dramatic monologue

At the end of Workshop 1, I make all of my students do a 90 second monologue in front of the class inspired by a randomly assigned topic. Some people are very apprehensive about it, but they understand this is a microcosm of the student show. I am personally a big fan of monologuing, I do it when I am walking around, cycling, at the shops - most people think I’m on the phone, and I don’t care if people think I’m mad! My material is conversational style, and my brain is most creative when I’m not trying to write comedy.
