So you have a clutch of mad notes... what now?
All of my exercises are based on the idea of free-form non-judgemental writing. I advise students: don't try and be funny. This might seem counterintuitive, but when people find a joke, they usually stop before they get to the really good stuff. Not to mention that “this has to be funny” is a form of judgement that will block you. You’d be surprised how much LOL funny stuff a student has read out that they prefaced as “not very good and quite boring” - in fact a minute or so of apologising is a standard introduction to most students' sharing of work.
