Hi Caroline, I am using the voices in my head all the time to generate material, thanks for this valuable excercise!! Now I have noticed, that my grandmy 'is saying a lot' :) How can I use this voice without saying 'my grandma says' and so on? Because of that voice I have lots of bits about my grandma... Can I change this up a little bit? And my second question: should I do act-outs as my voices or could this be confusing? Or do I just blend the voices into my material by blending them into my overall 'Me'? Thanks in advance!! All the best, Bianca

Thanks for this great question, I might turn it in to a follow up article. The voice doesn't have to directly be your grandma. It's just an old lady, or (assuming) "conservative" voice you have. This exercise was inspired by Maria Bamford. Now we can't all be as talented as she is about doing different voices, but check how she does it. Another person that uses voices seamlessly is Josie Long. Even Chapelle when he does his "white guy" voice just slips in and out of it without announcing.

Have fun!
