This is a brilliant list! I remember doing a show and everyone was doing terribly and all the comedians were blaming the room. The headliner then came on and killed it. Ever since then I have never thought it was the room's fault if people aren't laughing.

Seconded on all of them! What do you think of deliberately building up a shit gig tho (e.g. 'This is the biggest gig of my career!' to three people). I think there's some mileage there!

You absolutely have to address the awkwardness of playing to 3 people, and this seems like a good way to satarise the situation.

I had two in for a solo show once. Better than you might think.

I had one for a one man play once so I sat down at a table with him and told him the story over a drink. It was horribly awkward and we were both clearly relieved when two more blokes came in and it became a very poorly attended show rather than a creepy intense hostage situation.
